275th Day-26/11/2011

After a long, long wait and a lot of delays, I finally visited the Matterhorn, the most famous mountain in Switzerland!!

Oh yeah, before Matterhorn trip, I need to mention my new jacket again!!!!!! I was so happy that I bought it because I was able to take nice pictures with it on the Matterhorn .

Friday after school and after lunch in Konstanz, I put on my backpack, and had my sleeping bag in one hand and a bag of food in the other!! I took the train in the evening because Zen and Fei San were going to use their Gleis 7 (a card that allows you to take any train in Switzerland for free, but only after 7pm!). I rode the train for 1.5 hours by myself, and at Zurich train station, Zen came and joined me! As usual, he was late! And I was so worried that he wouldn’t be able to catch the train. Luckily he appeared in my sight at the very last minute! Fei San came onto the train one hour later. We talked a lot and shared stories.

Around 9pm, we stepped onto the train that only takes you to the Matterhorn. Happy and excited!! 10pm at night, we reached Randa, a village before Zermatt. The Matterhorn is in Zermatt; therefore all the hostels in Zermatt are super expensive and were fully booked! The check-in counter of the hostel closed at 10.30pm, so we has to hurry up and look for the hostel!! But when we reached the train station, we realised that Fei San found the wrong map for the hostel!! We had no choice but to just walk in the dark night and try our best to call the hostel!! Luckily, the hostel owner was super kind; she answered the call and came to pick us up.

After this small incident, we got into our room! Our room was much prettier than what we expected! We had a balcony, a sink, towels, mirrors, 3 beds with blankets and everything!! We were so satisfied with the price we paid and the sleeping bags were useless!! We took a lot pictures in the hostel.

high kick!!

On Saturday, we woke up around 8am and ate breakfast in the hostel! The breakfirst was simple but nice. We ate a lot because we extra paid for it and we planned on skipping lunch. After lunch, we took a taxi (which is the only way to get to Zermatt and is a service provided by the hostel) to Zermatt! The money we needed to pay was more than what the hostel owner told us , but nevermind! We put our sleeping bags and luggage in the locker and took the special train, Gornergart Bahn, to a place that has the best view of the Matterhorn.

We were so lucky that the special train tickets had a promotion. A 30min train ride was not long at all, and we were impressed by the beauty of the Matterhorn. We walked to top of the mountain and took a lot of pictures!! We stayed there for so long and played with snow!! A German guy taught us some new poses. An auntie took super nice pictures of us. A Japan woman gave Fei San a warm pad for her feet. A Swiss woman, an ex-exchange student, held my hand when she saw I scared walking through the snow. We met so many nice people in one day.

Around 4pm, all of us were super tired and cold. Finally, we decided to get down from the mountain! Actually, to save money I planned to not eat dinner since we still had 60% of the food I bought in Konstanz. But we accidentally found an affordable shop, although it didn’t look classy at all!! After some thinking, I ate the dinner with Zen and Fei San. I didn’t regret. :D

90 Franks, 9 hours worth of train rides and hostel, super friends and the super Matterhorn made my weekend super memorable! We promised each other we will come again before we go back to Malaysia! Thanks to Fei San for planning all this and thanks to Zen Yang for helping me, especially with walking through the snow!! I love you guys so much. You guys are the reason I won’t regret to spending a year on an exchange program!!
:D <3
